It can sometimes be a bit difficult to fit in. We’ve listed 13 simple tricks you can use to get your colleagues to like you.

First of all, being new at work is tough and you will feel extra tired. Make sure you get some extra sleep, don’t plan too much around work, take time for breaks and eat regularly and often in the early days.

Don’t feel stressed about not getting into everything at once. It often takes up to a year to get used to all the tasks in a new workplace.

Don’t forget that it takes a while to get to know your new colleagues and their different communication styles. If there are misunderstandings between you and your colleagues – don’t take it personally! The more you get to know each other, the more you will learn how to communicate in the best way.

It is not uncommon to feel left out of the team because of internal jokes or certain groupings, for example. But remember that we humans are creatures of habit and want to feel safe, which is why people usually continue with their usual routines even if a new person has joined the team. So it is not that you are being excluded.

Don’t wait to be invited or included, take the power yourself and ask! Join us for lunch, have a coffee with your colleagues and treat yourself. The feeling of being left out will soon disappear.

Do you already know what can cause stress or insecurity in your work? When you are new, take the opportunity to immediately set up a framework that avoids this. Formulate what it is and communicate this immediately to your manager or your new colleagues. Do you know that you get stressed by the hustle and bustle around you? Flag this right away! Or maybe you know that you perform worse if you don’t know clearly what is expected of you? Talk to your manager early on so that you can set a good working method from the start to apply going forward.

Don’t forget to enjoy and seize the moment! Although being new is tough and exhausting, it is also a lot of fun. Take the chance to become who you want to be and are in the workplace! Take on new challenges, show new sides and push yourself a bit. This will increase the chances of you enjoying your new job for a longer period of time.

Ask questions. Many people love to talk about themselves. Ask questions about your colleague’s life, projects and interests. Who knows, you might have a lot in common! Start small. That is, don’t go into too much personal detail the first thing you do.

9. Give compliments, but don’t go too far. Compliments don’t have to be about looks. If the person has helped you or done something really good – say so. A positive comment now and then is nice, but be moderate. If you sprinkle compliments around you can be perceived as fake.

10 Pay attention to body language. Being able to read someone’s body language is a great advantage. If you can do this, you can often steer the conversation in the right direction.

11. please be kind. It may go without saying, but it’s still important to point out. If you want people to like you – be a nice person. You don’t have to be overly nice, but being there for your colleagues when they need it, or just thanking them for the coffee can go a long way.

12. do your homework. Of course, you should never stalk your colleagues, but doing a little research on their likes and dislikes is not a bad idea. You can use that to break the ice.

13. be natural. Don’t try to win everyone’s heart overnight. It may take some time. Don’t try to strive for popularity in the workplace, but see it more as expanding your network and making new friends in the process.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column]
[/et_pb_row]
[/et_pb_section]

Are you new at work?
